First Ride
Well, my summer riding was supposed to begin a few weeks ago, but the weather was not cooperating. It rained a lot and was very cold here in Chicago. So I had to drive to work for 5 days of work, but yesterday, my sixth day, I rode my bike to work for the first time of the year. It was an exhausting ride, I had to go a mile and a half into the wind, so it wasn't too fun haha. But it ended up working out good and I felt great about getting some exercise and saving gas! Yesterday I rode for a total of 3.365 miles in 18:36 with a max speed of 22.4 mph and an average speed of 11.2 mph. It was a great feeling, you all should try it! Thank you, and Happy Easter!

Getting Started
Well, I am beginning my summer job this Wednesday and it will be the beginning of my summer riding program. I plan to ride to and from work everyday I work. It is only like a mile and a half so it isn't bad at all, but if I do this the whole summer it will definitely save me some money on gas. All the local driving, stop signs, turning, stop lights, etc. really burn fuel.
Each day I ride, I will make a blog post about my riding statistics for the day, where I went, how much I saved on gas, and anything else about my day that I find interesting. I would love to get a lot of people involved in this so I can hear what all you guys are going.
Gas prices are rising, and summer is approaching, so get on your bike and help yourself physically and financially, and help the environment too. If you like my ideas, please follow my blog (to the right >>>>>>) and suggest me to friends, thank you and have a great day!

Gas Prices!
Gas is already expensive at about $3.69 where i am at, and that is as low as its going to be this entire summer. There are rumors that it could rise to over $5.00 a gallon, and I wouldn't doubt it. Europe has been over $5.00 for quite awhile, we were bound to be someday too. That's not to say they wont ever go down again, but this summer, because of the situation with Libya and other situations around the world, the gas prices for the summer of 2011 will be extraordinarily high. The best way to combat these prices is to ride a bike, like they have been doing in Europe for years. Start spreading the word to your family and friends, we need everyone on a bike in the summer of 2011!

Let's Get Moving!
We need to make this a huge movement across hopefully the entire nation, so if you like my blog and you like my idea, please follow me and tell all your friends! Biking not only helps you in the 3 ways listed, it is also a very fun activity! I know i find myself going for bike rides with my friends over the summer, so why not do it more often? Make riding your bike to your friends a habit, and go for a ride with your friend. Need a snack from Wal-Mart? Ride there with your friend! Bring a backpack or a similar device to hold everything. Backpacks make great "trunks" for your bike. Once again, please scroll down and on the right side, click the "follow" button to follow me and tell your friends. This will make your summer much more enjoyable.

What summer 2011 is all about!
This summer you need to do something different. Something to make it the most fun summer of your life. You need to make a big commitment- a pledge to bike everywhere you go this summer. Now, this does not mean if your going out of state, you have to bike. But, if your destination is within a 5-10 mile radius for beginners or up to 20 miles for experienced fit bikers, bike to your destination rather than driving.
There are 3 great reasons why you should bike everywhere you go this summer:
1) Money. This is the most obvious and best reason to bike, to save money on gas. Gas prices are continuing to rise and it is pointless to waste gas driving around your neighborhood starting and stopping repeatedly. Biking may take a little longer, but it will save a remarkable amount of money. And we all like to save money. This money can be saved to help pay for bills or college, or you can use it as more spending money to have fun this summer. Things like bowling and go carts and water parks are expensive, but now you have extra money from saving on gas.
2) Exercise. As we all know, America is very fat. Although you may not be fat, a little exercise never hurt anybody. It will help you no matter what. Exercise makes you feel good because of the endorphins it releases in your brain. Being fit and feeling good mentally and emotionally will make your summer much more enjoyable.
3) The Environment. We have all heard about the Global Warming and environmental issues and everyone is trying to be more environmentally conscious. There are hybrid cars now, but those don't even compare to bicycles. Even if you don't believe in the global warming hype, (I, for one, do not) helping the environment is still a good thing. And don't forget the money you are saving.
If you do not already have a bike, go out and buy one- you could find a good one for $100 or less... this is much cheaper than what you spend on gas throughout the summer and it will last for a long time. If you would like a nice accessory, buy an odometer- this will track your mileage for one ride, total mileage, and it will calculate your speed for you. They start around $20 and make riding even more fun.
So this summer, make a pledge to yourself to bike everywhere possible to help your wallet, your body, and the environment. With more money in your pocket and a better fit body, it will be the best summer of your life! Share this blog with your friends and family and let's see how many people we can get to join this movement by the end of summer!
